Second Cut

Final Ancillary Products

Here below are my final Ancillary Products which I have changed and manipulated by the feedback from my fellow classmates which I felt was really good feedback and allowed me to make my end products look better than they previously did. I will also be describing what I did and didn't change and why.

Final Digipak

Front Cover
I changed the oval which presents the artist name and album to look exactly like their logo that they use on their clothing merchandise and other things including tickets etc. I feel that this looks a lot better both quality and colour scheme than the previous front cover. Some may argue that pink doesn't fit the genre but pink is indeed one of their common colours for clothing and in their logo etc.

Back of Front Inside
I decided to take one of my classmates requests into consideration, by add 4 more photos of the band into this part of the Digipak instead of one, to make it Digipak look a lot better. These photos have titles below them describing where these photos were taken. They are some of the performances they have done around the globe.

Spine
I did indeed add the album title with the artist name within the one spine which was according to my classmate 'The important spine' as it is usually displayed when stacked on a shelf etc. I agree that It looks a lot better without having it stretched onto the smaller spine.

Magazine Advert

Artist Name & Top part of the Magazine
I removed the bar at the top which one of my classmates requested which made my advert look like a 'retro gaming' magazine and made the font of the artist name a lot bigger, so that it would stand out from the album name at the bottom.

Star Ratings
I removed the 4 star rating in a heartbeat after realising that this rating would indeed make someone question my product. Also so that the ratings didn't overlap onto the character at the front of the magazine, leaving me with 3 ratings which I feel is enough.

QR Code
It took some time to figure out how to fit the QR code at the bottom without messing anything up. I had to shrink the social media links slightly and move them to the left. This did give me some extra space to insert another social media link which I did (Instagram). I also had to experiment with the album name and song, moving it so that It wasn't close to the QR Code, the social media links and the face of the character, not covering him too much.

Song Name
I tried to make the outline a slightly better and asked my classmates for a second opinion. All of them apart from the person who made this claim disagreed with their point that my song title wasn't clear and said it looked fine. Later on I asked the person if they thought the same way as they did before and they said that their comment was indeed harsh and said it looked fine. Therefore I didn't change much of the song title other than changing the opacity slightly of the stroke of the song title.

Initial Idea Magazine Advert and Feedback

This is my first product which I have created. I went around and asked some of my classmates about what they think about my Magazine Advert. Here are the following questions I asked them:
  1. What Strengths and Weaknesses can you identify in my Magazine Advert?
  2. Are the names of the Artist, Album name and song clear?
  3. Looking at the advert, what genre do you think it is presenting? What makes you think this?
  4. Does the advert contain all the important information required, if not what could be added to make it better?
  5. Is there anything that you would change and why?
  6. What do you think the target audience is for the product, what makes you think this and why?
  7. What do you think Overall? Any constructive feedback is appreciated.
1) Many of my classmates complimented me on using the Rule of Thirds into effect to make my Magazine look eye pleasing. They also said that I had put great detail into my advert and that I had used good amounts of space, so that there were no blank areas. Only one person had listed 2 weaknesses. They said that the title of the hit single wasn't clear where as people said that one of my main strengths was the title as It's very eye catching. They also mentioned that I had a 4 star review in my magazine which could potentially put off a buyer which slightly overlapped onto the character.

2) Everyone agreed that my album name and artist title was clear but one person didn't agree that my song title was clear.

3) Most people said my genre was Rock, some said alternative rock and one person said rap. They all said it was because of what the character was wearing in the background and the name of the album 'Rebel' which can link to a present rebellious teenager.

4) Everyone agreed that I had put all the information needed on my Magazine.

5) I had a many suggestions on what to change and why:
  • Move the QR code to the bottom and make the links slightly smaller so that it fits; They felt that it was covering the characters face slightly and didn't look right at the top right of the cover.
  • Remove the 4 star rating; It could potentially put off the consumer and someone buying my product.
  • Remove the bar at the top of the cover presenting the release date and artist; The person who mentioned this said that If I didn't remove it, my advert would look like a Retro Gaming magazine, that and it also covers part of the character.
  • Try to make the artist name bigger; The album name REBEL is a bigger font size than the artists name which makes it the first thing you see.
6) Everyone says that my target is audience is teenagers and people between 15-24 due to my colour scheme, detailed title and the character wearing relatable clothing such as a hoodie which a teenager commonly wears.

7) Everyone said No, adding more onto the Magazine Advert would be too much. Everyone said that they really liked the end result of my magazine which was pleasing to hear.
